spam

It used to be once a week. Now I have to clear out spam several times a day. Is there an easy technical way to restrict what new users do? To exclude spamming completely would also hit genuine new users but making it slightly harder for the spammers would be useful.Dejvid 11:15, 8 Aug 2007 (CDT)

CAPTCHA was one of the things I had in mind. Checking out the mediawiki site it seems that the CAPTCHA add on can only be installed from version 1.8[1]. Does anyone know the version of mediawiki that #mysql runs on? We could set the wiki to insist on email confirmation of emails. As a short term stop gap we could disable account creation for anonymous users and setup a googlemail account for genuine users to write to to request an account to be created for them.Dejvid 03:08, 17 Aug 2007 (CDT)
