Shut down the right server

Scheduled maintainance time. Get everyone in place and ready to go, then time to shut down the database server in preparation for a power down restart. Time to go: mysqladmin shutdown. Power off. Power on. Database server is taking a while to come up... looks like it's repairing. User: did you know the site is down? Scurry around checking. The master database server isn't running. Start it up.

It's a bad idea to type mysqladmin shutdown on the master server when you think you're working on a slave. Old habits from the single server days can take a while to break, particularly in the middle of the night.
